An Idea Mapping Success Blogs Weblog
In January 2010 Vanda North and Richard Israel will release their new book titled Mind Chi. This book is published by Wiley who also happens to be the publisher of my book Idea Mapping. Today was the announcement of the launch of their new website http://mindchi.com/. This website will be in support of their book, products, seminars, and services around this topic. They are early in this launch, so the cover of the book is still not finalized, however pre-release book sales on Amazon have started. Check them out!
Orbiting the Giant Hairball is a book written by Gordon MacKenzie and it is featured in the “Favorites” section of my new bookstore. Megan Clark is a high-level leader at a large automotive company in southeastern Michigan. We met in 1998 when she brought me in to teach the first of many classes at her organization.
Shortly after that class a prominent member of the leadership team approached her at a meeting and said, “Megan, you remind me of a book I just read.” She was flattered until he told her that the title of the book was Orbiting the Giant Hairball. Later that day she got a copy of the book. It is a fascinating book written by a former vice-president of Hallmark.
Megan enjoyed the book so much that she created this idea map of it and than sent it on to Gordon MacKenzie. A copy of this map and the full story is included in my book titled, Idea Mapping.
I mentioned a couple weeks ago that I’m teaching the 2-day workshop titled Idea Mapping: A Learning Workshop at the Mindjet facilities in San Francisco October 13-14, 2009. Originally we were toying with the possibility of adding a third day of Mindjet training. Unfortunately that is not going to work out. However Mindjet’s Chief Evangelist and blogger, Michael Deutch, will be attending the 2-day workshop with us. You will be able to take advantage of his knowledge if you have a burning question about MindManager.
For those of you interested in becoming a Certified Idea Mapping Instructor, this is your chance to get this prerequisite done prior to the December certification class. We have our first registrations starting to come in for the limited 30 seats. You may review the course abstract or register today!
This past week we added a new bookstore to this blog. Included are some of my favorite books, others that somehow relate to the Idea Mapping Workshop, business, and other fun categories. I will continually add books to this new store. Happy Reading!
I first introduced Melinda Dang in a December 2008 posting. Since then Melinda has contributed numerous idea maps to this blog on topics like using Idea Maps to study for AP Physics, Spanish, studying for the SAT’s and other subjects. These examples are the idea maps she created to study for her SAT exam and one physics example. She sent these to me earlier in the year and somehow I overlooked posting them. Search on “Melinda Dang” in this blog to see her many, many other idea maps.
Larisa Brigevich is a Certified Idea Mapping Instructor and the Director of Franklin Templeton’s Global Research Library. She has proved that her team’s explosion of new ideas has a direct correlation to their participation in the Idea Mapping workshop she taught them through last year. Read her full story.
Lisa Harvey Roach is a Certified Idea Mapping Instructor as of April 2008. We met when I was teaching the Idea Mapping Courses at ACH (Ford subsidiary) in 2007. In the summer of 2008 each certified instructor was given a blog as part of their certification. This week Lisa and I finally had a chance to catch up and get her started on her blog. So welcome Lisa to this blog farm. Below are a couple of photos from our adventures at Panera yesterday!

Kaizad Irani, Certified Idea Mapping Instructor, is back again with one of his masterpieces. Kaizad Irani is the Program Director for Horticulture and Landscape Design at Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois. All of his contributions have been outstanding. Search this blog on “kaizad” and see more of his beautiful idea maps.
This is one of his most recent creations. Four Agreements is a book written by Don Miguel Ruiz. Kaizad created an idea map summary of this book.
Caution: Don’t be intimidated by his artistic ability — my maps don’t come close to this, but they do serve their purpose.
October 13-15, 2009 will be the debut of a new training offering. On October 13-14, 2009 I will be offering the 2-day Idea Mapping Workshop and Mindjet is working on developing the third day where they will help participants put Mindjet solutions to work. Stay tuned for more details that might be available in a couple weeks. The entire three days will be held at the Mindjet offices in San Francisco in this room where these photos were taken.
Participants have the option of attending either the 2-day Idea Mapping Workshop OR the 1-day MindManager Training OR both. Priority for the MindManager Training will go to those who register for the Idea Mapping workshop since those people will have flown into town already. Remaining seats will be offered to those who are just interested in the MindManager day.
Both events are limited to 30 people, so once we reach that limit you will be placed on a wait list for our next event and notified when that is scheduled. Today we are opening up registration for the 2-day Idea Mapping Workshop. Registration and pricing is not yet available for the MindManager Training. If you are interested in the MindManager Training email Lisa(dot)Fait(at)Mindjet(dot)com and she will place you on their wait list and contact you once the final details are completed.
You can see the Idea Mapping Course Abstract for more information. See you in October!
