Jamie’s bookstore is stocked with books you’ll love! Titles that have anything to do with Idea Mapping, drawing, memory, brain research and other topics related to her Idea Mapping Workshop can all be found in the bookstore.
In addition…many of these blog postings include Idea Maps of books that other have submitted. All of those books were also added to the bookstore for your convenience.
Probably my most favorite book is Daniel Pink’s A Whole New Mind, but I’m currently reading Moonwalking with Einstein. This book is written by Joshua Foer who was the 2006 USA Memory Champion. It is hilarious! Another interesting read is The Cancer Code written by Michael & Bettina Jetter. It’s the story of how they founded Mindjet and Michael wrote the code for MindManager. Their adventure was quite eventful.

A big thank you to Swiss Re and CSC for providing a facility for this upcoming 2-day public Idea Mapping Workshop in my home town in Indiana. Pricing is the standard $695 for the public. The discounted rate for Swiss Re and CSC employees is $549 and students/teachers may attend for $350. Registration is now open.
Helpful resources include a course abstract and a 3-page article that gives you an overview of Idea Mapping. It was published by Purdue University’s Krannert Magazine which is a quarterly publication that goes to all the Krannert School of Management alumni.
PMPs can earn 15 PDUs under category 4. Students under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required in advance.
Add Your Idea Map, Mind Map, Concept Map or any other Graphic Organizer to Jamie’s Idea Mapping Library.

Melinda Dang is Back With Idea Maps or Mind Maps 361-362 on Project Management Studies

Melinda Dang is back again and sharing two idea maps from her college studies in Project Management at Bellevue College near Seattle, WA.
I first introduced Melinda Dang in a December 2008 posting. Since then Melinda has contributed numerous idea maps to this blog on topics like using Idea Maps to study for AP Physics, Spanish, studying for the SAT’s and other subjects.
For these idea maps she used an app called “iDesk”. Melinda wrote, “What I liked about it compared to other idea mapping apps I’ve found is that you can use a stylus or finger to just draw to shape and the app will recognize the shape for you so it gives the feel of mapping with a pen and paper. The other ones … I noticed you usually have to tap a button to add a bubble, which makes mapping less fun.

Idea Map 360 – Idea Mapping Guidelines vs. Mind Mapping Laws

This Idea Map describes the guidelines involved in idea mapping. Although idea mapping has a rich heritage in mind mapping, idea maps often break the mind map laws. Chapter 10 of Tony Buzan’s The Mind Map Book describes the Mind Map Laws — many of which are encouraged to be broken when it comes to idea mapping and based on the purpose for which the map is being created.
Over the next several postings I’ll share a number of scenarios where both the mind map laws (and even the idea mapping guidelines) might not apply.

Brandy Agerbeck, Graphic Facilitation and Her New Book

This visual creation was done by Brandy Agerbeck and reflects the content shared by the three keynote speakers at the Visual Literacy Conference (VizLit) held on March 17, 2012. The speakers were Karl Gude, Cliff Atkinson, and myself.
I first met Brandy in January 2008 at the first VizThink Conference in San Francisco. We reconnected in March and I was amazed to watch her at work on this graphic. Brandy has a new book that was just released titled The Graphic Facilitator’s Guide available at Amazon. If you’ve ever wanted to learn the art of graphic facilitation, you may as well learn from the best.

Idea Mapping Workshop Goes Down Under in 2013

On April 8-9, 2013 the Idea Mapping Workshop will debut in Melbourne, Australia. I (Jamie Nast – author of Idea Mapping) will be the instructor. Over the years I’ve had numerous inquiries as to when I might teach in Australia. In fact my monthly website and blog statistics reveal that Australia is frequently the country with the top number of visitors. So it’s time to head down under!
Already today I had an email from a previous inquirer from New Zealand saying that he’s marking the date. So if you are interested in participating in this workshop see the course abstract or go ahead and register (no need to pay yet). I know it’s still quite a way out, but because there will be an unusual amount of ordering/planning/shipping involved I will need to know the number of participants at least 2 months prior to the event.

During my recent public Idea Mapping Workshop in Livonia, MI there was a flurry of interest in using idea mapping software to create resumes. This was inspired by the examples that some of the participants had previously seen on this blog (see Carl’s Giosa’s resume along with Eric Giosa’s and Kevin Nast’s).
Janet Hart was one of those who decided to turn their resume into an idea map. Today I’m featuring her son’s resume that was created using MyThoughts on the MAC. His name is Alex Ciaramitaro and he’s a senior in high school. I was quite impressed that he took the initiative during the evening between days one and two of the workshop to use this application as an opportunity to learn this software package. Thank you Alex for sharing your idea map resume.
